I am receiving three consecutive 28-day programs in return for my honest review. All opinions are 100% that of my own and I look forward to sharing my Nutrisystem experience with you guys ! #NSnation #SparkleMeFit
Catch up on my previous Nutrisystem weekly updates and vlogs over here.
This week went by in a flash !This week was also another transition week.
As you may already know, the first week of Nutrisystem is called Fast5 and is the toughest week. You only get the 3 main Nutrisystem courses and are only allowed to add in unlimited non-starchy vegetables. See last weeks update for more info : The TRUTH About Nutrisystem Fast5 : Week One UPDATE
This week I had a bit more freedom with my add ins. I still had to have the three main courses of Nutrisystem foods. However, I was also able to have special servings of : PowerFuels, SmartCarbs and Extras ! Oh and of course non-starchy veggies are still part of it as well, these are unlimited.
PowerFuels are things like 2 oz salmon or chicken, 1 egg, 1/4 cup of cheese, 1 tablespoon of peanut butter... 80-120 calories and more than 5g of protein.
While SmartCarbs are more 1 cup of fruit, an english muffin, 1/2 cup cereal, 1/2 cup cooked pasta, starchy veggies* or tortilla wrap ... 80-120 calories and more than 1g of fiber.
* Starchy Veggies : Beans, Corn, Peas & Potatoes.
For Extras I can have 3 of these a day and they have to be around 35 calories a serving. Think 1 tablespoon avocado, 1 tablespoon cream cheese, 1 cup sugar free gelatin, 1 cup air popped popcorn or 1 tablespoon of sugar free maple syrup.
Now this is what the "plan" for my meals look like.
The plan is for me to consume at least 1,500 - 1,800 calories a day. Now I have only been averaging about 1,300 calories a day and my counselor told me I need to step it up a bit and EAT MORE ?!? Crazy right ? But the point behind this is that, if I am not eating enough my body will go into starvation mode and just hoard all of the calories rather than burning them.
The beauty of this only being a "plan" is that I can potentially ( not all the time ) move my SmartCarbs and PowerFuels around to fix my lifestyle. For instance we went over our friends house Saturday night and I knew I would want to eat some regular food while there. I knew I needed to moderate myself so I saved my afternoon snack and had those extra mid day snack Powerfuels at dinner time. The ability to move things around and make this a more do-able, livable lifestyle makes me really happy !! And I was smart, I still ate my Nutrisystem dinner before leaving the house, I figured going to a BBQ party on an empty stomach would be like grocery shopping hungry. So I went in only sort of hungry. I allowed myself two small chicken breast pieces and a 1/4 cup of pasta salad then cut my self off and enjoyed some carrot sticks. I was full, content, happy and got to enjoy real food along with everyone else. Its all about planning meals out, knowing your limits and sticking to them :-)
Now this week has also brought on DESSERTS which I was super excited about as I am a sweet tooth kind of gal. However, I feel like several of the ones I tried were sort of a let down. After some of them I sort of felt guilty that I wasted calories on them. Hey I promise y'all an honest review right ??
I am keeping a log of all the foods I am having with a not next to it what I thought about it. Here are the desserts I had this week. I did surprisingly skip dessert on a few nights.
Peppermint Cookie Patty - OK
Walnut Chocolate Chip Cookies - OK / GOOD
Chocolatey Nougat Bar - NO
Ice Cream Sandwich - GOOD
Chocolate Caramel Bar - NO
I have also not been enjoying the nutrition bars for lunch either. Some taste fine but others are bland. None of them fill me up even with an add on along with it. I feel like the dessert bar taste similar to these lunch bars and that messes with my head a bit. As of now I prefer the ice cream and cookies for dessert and some more hearty, filling meals for lunch.
Now lets talk about the food that I have been loving !!!!
