At Home Soda Maker | SodaStream SOURCE | Video Demo & Review

I am so incredibly grateful to have received this product in exchange for my honest review, thank you SodaStream.
Have you ever made your own soda before ? I think what sold me on the idea was how easy it was to use and how many different syrup flavors there are to choose from. I already like to mix different coffee's to make new versions so why not sparkling beverages?

My SodaStream home soda maker is the SOURCE model designed by Yves Béhar. The start up kit includes: the machine, one reusable 1L BPA-free carbonating bottle with fizz-preserving cap, Soda mix Taste Sampler (6 flavors) &  1 60L CO2 carbonator (makes up to 60 liters).

I love my SOURCE soda maker ! It is beyond easy to use and with it's slim, sleek design the machine doesn't take up much room at all on my counter. Plus in comes in various color choices so you can pick on out that matching your style / decor. It is also totally powered by the CO2 canister, meaning no ugly electrical cords to hide or batteries to change.

One of the many benefits, for me at least, with using the SodaStream soda maker is to lessen my families CO2 footprint. Did you know that SodaStream is considered an "Active Green" product? This means that every time we make soda or sparkling water at home instead of buying it from the store, it drastically decreases our CO2 footprint. Speaking of carbonation, the SOURCE as 3 levels of fizziness. That way you get the perfect about of bubbliness in each bottle. There is an carbonation level LED indicator on the front of the machine - see the demo video below for more info on this.

Check out my video to see a step by step demonstration on how to successfully transform water into soda using the SodaStream SOURCE machine.
There are so many flavors to choose from !! These are some I saw at my local Fry's Kroger supermarket.
You DO have to refrigerate the syrups once you open them, so we try to only have 2-3 open at a time. As I mentioned earlier I really like mixing the different flavors to create new , unique and fun flavors. One of my favorite mixes being the Cranberry - Raspberry and Crystal Light Fruit Punch! The Black Currant Pear is really good too !! The kids really enjoy the new Ocean Spray Cranberry syrup and hubbies favorite is the Sparkling Naturals Ginger Ale. I like the Ginger Ale too, it is tastes fantastic and is naturally sweetened with cane sugar. Flavors I haven't been a huge fan of are the Cola ones, we tried the Free Cola and the regular Naturally Flavored Cola. Then again I am not a huge dark soda drinker to begin with !! I still will bubblize the cola's though and add a bit of Rum and don't even taste a difference * insert chuckle*.

Check out these fun new NON-alcoholic, but could be made alcoholic ;-) Happy Hour mixes. Cosmopolitan mix, Margarita mix and Pina Colada mix. I haven't tried any of them yet but am totally going to look for them next time I am in Bed, Bath & Beyond !
The only trouble I have with making my own soda is actually pouring the syrup in the bottle. I am a messy gal, so naturally without the caps having a pour spout I tend to make a bit of a mess. Also if you don't hold the bottle at a 45° angle when pouring in the flavor the bubbles tend to overflow. I have done this many times ( mostly because I was being lazy ) but have since learned my lesson :-) On the other hand, I have noticed is that the bottle holds the carbonation really well. I once made up a bottle of sparkling pink lemonade and put the left overs in the fridge to only forget I had made it till a few days later. To my surprise the pink lemonade still had a ton of carbonation left to it !!
I really am obsessed with my SOURCE.
Tell me in the comments below: do you own one of these soda makers already or is it on your wish list  ?

  1. very informative. but help me. I think the secret is ICE cold water. I noticed your product bubbled just like the real thing. We just got ours. When we lifted up the plunger. the soda just shot back up like mentos in diet coke. What are we doing wrong. Like you, I like a lotta carbonation too. Also, can you carbonate ready-made stuff (like apple juice)?

  4. I do not own a Soda Stream home soda maker, I would definitely love to have one. I'd like to try the Ocean Spray flavors and the Crystal Light flavors. Thank you for this great review.
